Foxley Wood, Late April.

Foxley Wood: April 2020

We found beauty, joy, tranquillity

in a wood of azure blue;

bells whose antecedents lived

quiet aeons prior to me or you.

The peace was sudden shattered

by a vile and violent roar

of military jets blasting the sky.

We asked 'Whatever for?'

The din hurt ears, but far, far worse,

our souls were crushed with fear

as fuel was guzzled, spent, then fouled

earth’s fragile atmosphere.
