It feels extraordinary that war, with all its disastrous and hideous outcomes, might just hasten the green-energy transition. 

The inevitability of that transition had already been forecast by Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of The United Nations in a speech to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly 11^th January 2026. But with the world’s vulnerability to the dirty and dangerous carbon fuel industries, made so much more evident by the vileness of war, strategies that free countries from that stranglehold become increasingly attractive.

and net zero come well into sight.
