In the next ten days there will be a new CLIMERICK every day - each one addressed to a different group of people, either by profession or by interest.
The message of these is, I hope, clear CLIMATE CHANGE IS THE BUSINESS OF EVERYONE IN THE WORLD. Everyone who can needs to make their anxieties, distress or determination lead us to making it clear over and over again to world leaders who are simply not taking this issue seriously enough.
Hopefully, this collection of short verses can give opportunities to prompt - no, batter, our own community and national leaders into swift and determined action.
Here’s a starter
Let’s encourage creators of art
to play a significant part,
in a visible storm
that infers it’s the norm
to have climate change on every heart.

Here’s some changes many of us can think about as OUR contribution to Climate concern
The increase in friendliness strikes
Our community when we ride bikes,
We can stop and just talk,
It’s the same when we walk,
And there’s less traffic – what’s not to like?
The children are making great strides,
With their fitness on home to school rides,
And the ones who now walk,
Have more time to talk,
And we all breathe much better outside.
We’re making our planet too warm,
It’s doing a great deal of harm;
Let’s get on our feet,
And reclaim our streets,
Like the Dutch did – and they’re on top form!

On EARTH DAY, Wake Up! The Extremes
of weather are just what they seem;
the result of abuse
in the fuels that we use:
we must STOP! NOW! Not soon- and go green.

This morning we were due to join a party being shown over one of the Cambridge Colleges. This proved to be a delightful and very informative visit and we are grateful to the head gardener for his enthusiastic explanation of how the gardens have been developed during his tenure, incorporating wildlife areas and a determination to make the grounds a restful place for students, post-graduates and visitors. Before we joined the visit, arranged by one of the college fellows, I wrote the following Climerick to celebrate what was going to be a new experience for us.
Please gardeners all kick up a stink,
to make our politicos think
that much hotter summers
are hideous bummers
for gardens to stay 'in the pink’.

It is irritating to read over and over again that THE science says this or that. With Climate concern there are MANY different disciplines all demonstrate the changes that are happening over and over again. This Climerick is intended to highlight that fact.
