CLIMERICKS: From THE ROCK , Few Big Bergs To Be Seen by Dr John Hobbs

 KEEPING CLIMATE CONCERN

St Cuthbert’s Island, off Lindisfarne, Northumbria.
An islet under threat from rising sea levels. The islet
has been adopted by Eco-Verses as
a symbol of the global risk to low-lying places.

From the Rock, few big bergs to be seen,

And the ice floes, increasingly lean,
As behind the Earth’s heat
The sheet beats a retreat:
C’mon folks, it’s time to go Green!

To Newfoundlanders, Canadians, and (since the remarkable success of “Come From Away”) a wider swath of the planet’s population, “The Rock” is Newfoundland. Fewer large icebergs than usual have been seen making their slow way from the North down “Iceberg Alley” (a major tourist site) lately, the glaciers which calve them are in retreat.
